Checking In...

I am exhausted, perhaps you are too? But it is a good exhausted.
  • Time spent Christmas Eve picking up my parents who haven't come out to join us for a couple of years.
  • Staying up to place requisite cookies, milk, note and gifts out while Tianna slept next to the tree and the chimney. It was 1:33 am before she conked out.
  • Being woken up at 7:30, which is really quite respectable for Christmas morning, by Nicole who had less than no patience for the fact that her brothers are slow and difficult to wake up.
  • Baking, baking and more baking, followed by eating, eating and more eating.
  • A full day on Christmas relishing in family that had joined us.
  • Christmas dinner with my dear friend Elaine.
  • Collecting all the recyclable paper to take to HUF at some point in the not too distant future as recyclables in need of transport are taking over my garage.
  • A full day of work today. I reviewed 23 charts in Pottsville, about an hour away.

I hope to sleep in tomorrow, a realistic dream as neither girl is home. Photos and thoughts to share and cherish to follow.

How tired are you? May you get some rest.

Peace.

Overall, we had a great Christmas with the boys all home. Having less under the tree and in the stockings didn't matter at all. In fact, Jeff said he thought we had the best gifts ever, because they were so thoughtful. I certainly got the best gift ever from him -- a small jewelry box with two appointment cards showing Jeff had finally made his doctor's appointment and for blood work. I really almost cried; I didn't honestly think he ever would go and that he didn't understand how worried we ALL were about his health.

Then that night, our friends joined us for dinner, of a very untraditional variety. Everyone made their favorite dish -- I made scalloped potatoes and also steamed some shrimp, my friend made noodle kugel (the sweet kind) and baked ziti, Josh made green beans, Ben made a taco ring (do you know the Pampered Chef recipe?), Jeff made chocolate mousse, and Gregory and Simone helped setting up the tables. And I had made TONS of cookies in the week prior.

Smallest glitch, though. Towards the end of cooking, the oven caught fire from the dripping potatoes. When we tried our fire extinguisher, nothing came out. Fortunately, just closing the oven door put it out.

Then yesterday, we discovered the powder room toilet had overflowed out into the hall. In trying to fix it, we flooded everything -- including the basement bedroom, crafts room and bathroom. Josh snaked it six times but got nothing. So, at 6 p.m. the Friday after Christmas, the plumbers come. After two hours, they figured it out (our toilet having been removed and placed in the foyer). Turns out the pipe leading out from our house to the septic tank had sheered in two. This morning they are back at it -- ripping up the pipes (both sides of the break) to lay new pipe. They postulate we have been living with a broken pipe for a while now, which means all our household brown and gray water has been simply being dumped into our yard.

Oy! Oy! Oy!

Glad you had a good Christmas as busy as it was. Ours was pretty good too. Jeff and I kept it simple for each other which we often do - I got a jewelry box, he got a fishing pole. Of course mine is now in pieces since Zack accidentaly knocked it over and the glass shattered. I had just gotten it out of the box. I actually wasn't upset although I really liked it. Zack felt bad, but it's only an object - not worth getting upset over.
The boys are in LEGO heaven and poor Jeff spent 5 hours putting together several lego sets between both the boys. We had Christmas dinner at our house for my family, but only my mom came so there was lots to eat. My dad decided that morning not to join us and my sister's family decided that they were not going to celebrate Christmas this year because "we don't really know when Jesus's birthday is so there is no sense in celebrating it." (Don't open that can of worms!) Anyway, we ended that night with a visit to Jeff's family which was very nice with everyone there.
The boys were so excited. I think my youngest did not sit down once. Even while he was talking, he was pacing and about as fast as he was talking. It could make you dizzy!
Jeff's working today to make up for taking off yesterday and so the house is pretty quiet with everyone contently playing with their new toys. Ahh, peace!

By the way, I dream of a 7:30am wake up time for Christmas morning! Ours started at 5am! We stalled them till 5:45 before we gave up. Everything was cleaned up by 6:15am! Last year we were done by 5:30am. I guess we are getting a little better each year. :o)

Yes, I did get to sleep in (finally!) because Jon and I were watching a DVD (Big Fish) at 12:04 in the morning when the earthquake hit (3.4)--a moderate one--that made me a little nervous. So I stayed up until 3:00 a.m. for the ripple effect (none!). So I finally fell asleep until 11:00 a.m. (I haven't done that since college finals!). Oh to be "young" again!
