The Last Couple of Days...

The last couple of days have been full; very full in fact. Full of fun, full of work, and full of play. But never too full to take some photos! I think there are still some people who think my husband is a figment of my imagination. But here we are together at the Dermatology Christmas Party on Wednesday night. Wednesday kind of fell apart since we had bad weather in the morning, but it wasn't bad enough to cancel the party. Just bad enough for a two hour delay that wreaked havoc on my life. No work for me that day, which meant a super long day the next.
So after I reviewed 23 charts, which still have information to be put in sometime between now and Monday, I went to pick up Tianna at dance, and the dance teacher, Karen, loves pink even more than I do if that is possible...so what other option was there than to have a photo op in front of the pink tree with pink Santa hat no less! When I commented to my husband that I NEEDED a pink Christmas tree he immediately corrected my confusion between needs and wants...but it came from Big Lots, so there may be some after Christmas sale potential...

And then there was Friday...
I really was hoping there would be school, because I needed some quiet time at home to figure out such important matters as equality in gift giving between siblings, waiting for Matt to come home to have a quiet conversation with him, and the fact that I had a radio interview at noon that was live and would not have gone well with Nicole zooming through the house.

So I woke up and there wasn't a single flake. So I reluctantly woke Tianna up first and then thought, well maybe, just maybe I had better check the school closings and delays...
CLOSED! Yikes! I do like to hunker down with the flakes floating down but today was not one of those days. Well, it wasn't long before snow and ice came floating and pelting out of the sky.
Normally a total woosie about driving in bad weather, I packed Nicole up to take her to her friend's house, but it took close to an hour to find her appropriate snow clothes...that lead to the cleaning out of the hall closet, the aftermath of which is pictured above.
That in turn, led to a purging of my closet. I decided to clear out the things that didn't fit me...Let me just say that my closet is pretty empty...some I am storing elsewhere, some I am listing on EBay, and some with yard sale away.
That has been the last couple of days here. There are a couple of other really sweet, touching stories I want to share, but those will wait for later. I am stressing about finding two gift cards I purchased and can't find....
Fa La La...

Hey, your week sounds like mine, only I spent mine between here and the hardware store and my shed.

On Tuesday, I spent all day trying to thaw the pipes in the shed, or running into the shed or out of it or whatever, completely unsuccessfully. Monday, my son and I took our big pickup thinking weight was good, and tried to make a trip in the fffreeeezzzingg cold to the bank and then the pharmacy to get insulin for our dalmatian, who is losing about 2 pounds per day while we are out! Not an option to go get insulin...or she will blow away. But the truck, being an automatic, wanted to 20 and I wanted to 5 on the ice, but I could not stop it without sliding half a block...so we parked a block from the main road and walked the 4 blocks to the bank and the 3 more blocks to the pharmacy...and headed back. Made it home uneventfully in low gear.

Tuesday, I begged a friend who was brave enough to drive, for a gallon of milk and 2 gallons of water, melting snow to flush toilets.

Wednesday, i noted that our PVC pipe in the shed had indeed thawed at my attempts and also shattered. So while I waited for dh to finish work, I begged about 30 gallons of water for my horses, carried by me, 10 gallons at a time the 100 yards from my neighbor's house to my horses. We did use some of it for flushing toilets. I also braved the hill up our driveway (always an exciting icy experience in the snow)to the hardware store in our front-wheel drive, manual, Ford Escort...which did great in the ice and snow, once we coaxed it up onto the street...Read that as getting a 50 foot run it and praying there were no cars as we shot out past our hedge!

when we got all the PVC pipe rep;aced we had two leaks, one in a joint we neglected to seal and one on our lovely brass check valve. So we flushed the toilets over and over and filled our pitchers and tea kettles with water and shut the water off..

The next day, I again had to wait for dh to finish work, and made another trip to the hardware store, big photo in hand, for parts. I picked up my daughter who helped me with the chore (I swear, my version of hell would be as a plumber!).

Anyway, Satruday is here and we are thawed and have water again, though not completely functional, but I'm still working on it! At least we have water and we aren't flooding the shed!!

Long week.

First of all, glad you're back Jodie. I have been thinking about and praying for you.

Your day the other day sounds worse than mine. No water, frozen pipes...ugh. It is hard enough for me to keep up with feeding the cats and dog, let alone watering horses with no running water and having to literally run the water over.
It looks like nasty, nasty weather out your way. We are supposed to get a couple more inches of snow tomorrow. Hope it isn't too bad.
Be well.

Was Cliff's service on Tuesday? Did your mom make it? There have been several deaths in our community over the last week, one in particular very tragic as it was a young person who commited suicide.

Kathy,
Beautiful pic of you and Howie! You just sparkle! Also...amazing pink christmas tree! Big lots, huh? I am very tempted, but my family (even the girls) would kill me!!! Maybe when I get my own office someday! We finally ventured out to get a tree yesterday. My kids have so much fun that it is really a hoot! We tried a new place closer to us to cut our own, I thought the kids would be as discouraged as I was, hiking up a very steep side of a mountain in deep snow, NO mowing or trimming between trees! I fell, it was so steep, I was almost down anyway, so emma thought she would help by pulling me backward, which of course, pulled me down the other way! We were shreiking with laughter, julianna videotaping it all for posterity (or future backmail..). Anyway, the only affordable trees were sooooo ugly, so we climbed back down and handed in our saw. Went to Mifflinburg and got a lovely 9 foot fraser fir for $25! Jodie, welcome back. I have been praying for you, as well.

My brother's service was on the 13th and I think everyone who wanted to make it did. There was snow along the road, but the roads were thawed. They held the service at the old school as it was raining and cold and the place was standing room only. Mom made it up to the cemetary though. I will have to go back. All is well.

Pray for my daughter now, if you would. She is about 5 weeks pregnant and has been spotting and her ultrasound showed her to be a week less far along than she thought. She claims not be worried, but I had 2 miscarriages and what she describes is exactly like that. I am afraid for her. I don't want her to have to suffer. It took them almost 2 years to get pregnant!

I think we are all healing. We happen to live on the southern tip of the storm out here. In fact, if you look at a weather map, there is a little hole that is rain, when all around is snow, and that is where we are. It started raining yesterday and everything is now must mud, mud and more mud. We are hoping for rain to continue through the week, so my folks can come over to our daughter's for Christmas (they need to press on. Mom just wants to be a hermit, but she NEEDS to move on.) I sure don't want them to have the excuse of bad roads for not coming over!! After Christmas, as far as I am concerned, it can snow all it wants!!

sometimes I think God allows catastrophe in my life to help take my focus off the sadness. There is sadness, but for me I feel the work is over. There is no more I can do for my brother, now my focus is on Mom and my other brothers (and my absent sister--boy is SHE in trouble! that's two funerals she has missed this year!)

Life goes on, and we have to encourage those who are alive to LIVE...which is one thing I love about you!! you do just that.

Can I tag your article of clothing?!?! Umm...I think I remember that jacket? Beautiful!

Too funny...the whole thing (fa-la-la-la...la). My house now looks like a dorm: books, comptuers, shoes, snowboards...they're everywhere!

Newsflash: I baked! I made fudge, sugar cookies, and ultimate chocolate chip cookies. Yeah! Jon said, "Mom, I haven't seen you do that in a LONG time?"

Duh...there's a reason why I don't bake (I eat!).

Hey, can we just take that whole "pink" prop "thingy" on the road with us? Perfect!

I'm taking a break from blogging until after Christmas!

HUGS!
